Foster or Forever Home Wanted: Meet Venus!
Venus’s story is one we hear far too often, and it’s heartbreaking. Venus entered the Hesperia shelter with a litter of puppies, doing her best to care for and protect them in a loud, overcrowded shelter environment. As usual, once the puppies were old enough, they quickly found homes… but Venus was left behind.
With shelters overcrowded and adoptions slowing down, Venus quickly ran out of time. Being a black dog and no longer a puppy, she was repeatedly overlooked. Thankfully, one of the shelter volunteers reached out to us and let us know Venus was in danger. When we called to check on her status, we were told that if she wasn’t picked up that day, she would lose her life. Needless to say, we went into overdrive to make sure Venus made it out safely and got the second chance she deserved.
Venus is dog friendly, cat friendly, and people friendly, though she can be a little shy at first while getting comfortable. She loves going for walks and soaking up attention from her people once she settles in.
Venus is also incredibly smart and resourceful. After escaping her foster home, she survived on the run for an entire week before being safely recovered. During that time, we learned she is very street smart and an impressive digger. Because of this, Venus will need a home committed to keeping her safe. She should never be left unattended in a backyard, and her future family should use baby gates, crates, and extra caution when entering or exiting the home to prevent escapes.
Venus would thrive with a patient family willing to give her structure, consistency, and security while she continues learning what it means to truly be safe and loved. If you are interested in meeting Venus, please head over to www.labradorsandfriends.org to fill out an application.
Venus is located in Southern California.
